Bitcoin - The Currency of the Internet
A community dedicated to Bitcoin, the currency of the Internet. Bitcoin is a distributed, worldwide, decentralized digital money. Bitcoins are issued and managed without any central authority whatsoever: there is no government, company, or bank in charge of Bitcoin. You might be interested in Bitcoin if you like cryptography, distributed peer-to-peer systems, or economics. A large percentage of Bitcoin enthusiasts are libertarians, though people of all political philosophies are welcome.
I have an intel core i7-7700T and a GeForce GTX 1070 8GB, LPX Vengance 2400MHz RAM, but I’m looking to upgrade everything later on.. what motherboard should I get? I’ve got a bad bitcoin mining motherboard and this stuff is the best it can handle (2400mhz and i7 max)
Wanting to sell some btc asap, but the core synch is so slow!
My goal here is to sell some btc asap, and of course it has to be "safe". Ive made this mistake about 10 times before (as in ive had to download/validate/synch the entire blockchain around 10 times...).... but now I would like to get some assistance please .... My setup is as follows; (#1)New setup running bitcoin core;
intel 7700k 24GB ram 512GB SSD
(#2)previous setup running bitcoin core'
i7 920 oc'd to 3ghz 6GB ram 1TB HDD (not like this matters)
So heres my process. Closed bitcoin core on #2, waited for it to completely close, then shutdown #2's operating system (win7). plugged the #2 1TB HDD into a usb caddy which was plugged into pc#1 Afterwards, I copied the appdata\roaming\"bitcoin"\ directory from #2 to #1 (which obviously didn't exist until it was written onto #1's HDD). Downloaded the latest bitcoin core installer Ran the program. Got a prompt to "reindex" now I'm stuck with bitcoin client "processing" It states its 2 yr 30wk behind........... I really need to make some transactions soon, I dont understand why it is so far behind when all I've done is copy the database/etc (entire appdata dir) to another computer and ran the program? why should this matter? I have mirrored the exact same data over .... why is re-indexing needed? Why can I not just copy the directory to another computer without this .....b....s?? (ps i havent bothered spellchecking...) In the time its taken to write this shit post its only done 3 weeks.... now its 2yr 27wks remaining..... HOW CAN I SPEED THIS UP IT IS ON FAST HARDWARE, CPU LOAD IS <5% ON THE PROGRAM, (SSD)HDD LOAD IS NEXT TO NOTHING...RAM IS LESS THAN 15% IN USE, NETWORK IS LESS THAN 30% IN USE AND I HAVE QOS'D THE BITCOIN COMPUTER'S IP TO HAVE PRIORITY..... ITS NOT REALLY DOING MUCH AT ALL..... Jokes aside... please guys please help me... how can I speed this up ....

I have a lot of time where I am in hotels or someplace other than somewhere I am responsible for paying the light bill. Is this still worth it if I join a pool? With cgminer even still work without a ASIC miner?

It's not just about the 150 GB blockchain size. It's also about the time it takes to reindex the chain. On my 2.6 GHz Intel Core i7, it takes over 40 hours to reindex. Just thought everyone should be aware of this. /r/Bitcoin
Have you heard about 'money remittance' concept? I'm sure you have used or at least heard someone talking about using WesternUnion or even USPS to send money to their loved ones across boundaries, typically from one country to another (i.e., from US to Mexico). Sending 'money' to someone is not different than sending 'value' --that's worth something elsewhere-- or giving away some asset to a different person so he/she can use it towards any end. This core concept was looked-into by Satoshi Nakamoto (who invented Bitcoin) in its first whitepaper. Nevertheless, Bitcoin has its own setbacks regarding power-cost efficiency and transaction confirmation times, although it solves the 'double-spending' dilemma, it results in a pretty inefficient means to send small (<100 USD) amounts of money. Other thing to take into consideration when evaluating a remittance platform is the regulation sandbox on both ends of the transaction. If the sender is in an over-regulated country, as is the recipient, then it could be costly and even unlawful, resulting on market inefficiencies that makes cryptocurrency remittances highly risky. Bitcoin Token (BTCT) is a PIVX fork who, itself, is a DASH fork who, itself, is a BTC fork. That makes BTCT a 4th. BTC generation crypto asset, classified as a payment coin with its own blockchain. BTCT confirms transactions in less than 3 seconds. BTCT uses 1/1000 of the power used by a BTC miner to create new coins and it has the same total supply as BTC, that is: 21 million coins. And BTCT is also a PoS protocol crypto asset, making it available to mine either by old computers as newly produced high-end ones, like any i7 or AMD Ryzen based motherboards. Bitcoin Token (BTCT) is also a true decentralised project, like BTC; there's no CEO nor CTO nor CFO, making it a community-driven cryptocurrency. Bitcoin Token (BTCT) was launched on 21st. November, 2019. It has a market capitalization of about 300K USD and its current price is ranging between 50 and 150 satoshis. Their community is 50K+ wide abroad Twitter, Telegram, Facebook, Instagram, Discord and Bitcointalk. The cost of one masternode (staking miner) is about $70 USD, which has an implicit collateral of 10K BTCT coins. They're listed on 6+ exchanges, CoinMarketCap, CoinGecko and have a really awesome dev team. There's been a lot of chatter about this project being able to deliver BTCT direct spending on 'real-fiat' world via a debit card, and that's because of their partnership with ZCore. If they manage to do that, I'm sure it will surely be a nice valuable alternative to remittance coins like XRP, and it would likely pose a very interesting investment option for 'low-marketcap' cryptos. Their official website is: https://www.bitcointoken.pw/
Super bad framerates with a 100% GPU use spike. Can't figure out what's wrong, as temperatures are pretty low.
Okay, so I've been trying to find out why this is happening for about a week, my machine is a Thinkpad P53 workstation, with a 6-core 12-thread i7-9850H and a Quadro RTX3000 GPU. I know this sub is mainly geared toward desktops, but I didn't know where else to ask, as I believe if anyone would have great troubleshooting skills in this topic, it will be you guys. So, I've had this machine for almost a year now, no issues until about a week ago. I have 64GB of RAM and 2TB of nvme SSD storage as well, so I doubt there's an issue there. I started playing a pretty non demanding game, Monster Hunter World, and purposefully set it to 1080p and medium settings, whereas I can run it at 4k 60fps no problem with high settings. The issue happens sometimes after 5 minutes of playing, and sometimes after 30 minutes of playing, it's pretty random, but what will happen is that fps will drop from a solid 60fps to a stuttery 15-20 fps, the important aspect of this is that the exact moment it happens, the GPU usage jumps from around 50% to a full 100% and stays there, not sure what's happening. I know that "100% GPU usage is good" but this case is different. The machine is powerful enough, as I'm pulling 60fps with the highest settings with 50-60% usage, but it only jumps to 100 the exact moment the performance drop occurs. I downloaded MSI Afterburner and RivaTuner to see it in action and got this screenshot: Temps are fine, they rarely go above 80-85C ever, as I've repasted the machine. I took this a few secs after the performance drop, I notice that there's a temp and power throttle, the power throttle is usually there most of the time, and doesn't exactly affect performance, however the temperature throttling is what I find puzzling, as you can see the temps are fine, and stay there pretty much with every game, since it started happening about a week back, I decided to repaste the machine, and even though it helped keep temps much lower than before, it still didn't solve the issue. After reading several threads here, I couldn't find any which were analogous to "High GPU usage, FPS bad", but I did read about several people that found out they had a bitcoin miner malware in their machine which spiked GPU usage. I decided to completely reinstall Windows in order to get rid of that probability, I made a bootable usb drive with the Windows Install tool and completely wiped all of the partitions before reinstall. The issue remained, so I could count out bitcoin malware, or Lenovo drivers, since the clean install came without any Lenovo bloatware, and also driver issues, so I just upgraded all my drivers back to the newest ones, now here I am, desperate to find out why this is happening, begging for help in pcmasterrace. Is there any other benchmarks/tests I can run to diagnose the issue? I bought 3dMark, PCMark, and VRMark to benchmark my machine, and ran the time spy benchmark without issues, but only a couple of times, maybe not enough to have it show up. Lastly, I have the machine plugged in, and on 'Best Performance' mode, which according to the machine, should provide the best cooling instead of caring about being quiet. EDIT: I'll also add, that the issues go away after a machine reboot, and sometimes when changing the performance slider from 'Best Performance' to something else and then back. At this point I think it might be driver or BIOS version related, so perhaps waiting might be the key.
A little bit about me: -I'm currently 17 but have parental permission to use stock trading (I'm using CashApp and have a quarter share of Apple right now) -I'm broke but work 6 days a week -I leave for the military soon so if there's something I can do that'll be long-term that would be great! Now, I've heard so much about Bitcoin and I want to get my hands dirty with it. I have a budget of about $300-400 but note that I do have a decent gaming rig. i7-8700 (6 cores) and a 1060 with 3 gigs of ram. (I know my GPU is pretty dog sh*t) (i plan on upgrading at some point) As of right now I have probably gambled around $400 (in losses) and I'm going to stop and try to better myself for something long term instead of being stupid and trying to make fast cash. Are there any websites/downloads that can help me out with mining bitcoin? What should I do with the money I'm willing to spend (the $300 or so)? And most importantly, how much and how long do you think it'd take for me to start making back the $400 I've lost because of my stupid actions. I'm grateful for any help I can receive. Thank you all -Jay

What is Bitcoin?
Bitcoin (₿) (ticker BTC)is an open source cryptocurrency. It is a decentralized cryptographic currency without a central bank or single administrator in control that can be sent from user to user on the peer-to-peer bitcoin network without the need for 3rd person in between like bank, or payment processor or institution all transaction processing and verification is carried out collectively by the network. Find out more at http://www.bitcoinduliban.org/
Why Bitcoin is the future?
Bitcoin emerged in 2009 as more economies across the world started losing trust in the current banking model. Institutions that have been around longer than ourselves have changed very little throughout our lifetime. Not only does the lack of trust, and stagnant change of banks allow Bitcoin to thrive, but also the possibility of eliminating inflation. Bitcoin saw the opportunity to take the power out of the institutions and provide a better service, and the people responded. Bitcoin operates universally, meaning for the first time, there is a possibility of a global currency. With truly international currency possibilities for global economic growth, social equality, self-sovereignty is endless.
Why Bitcoin and not others?
It is a very good question, there at the moment of writing over 2000 projects and “coins” that emerged after Bitcoin. Many of them claim to be faster, better and more flexible than Bitcoin however very few have withstood the test of time or delivered their proposed product. The basic fundamentals of Bitcoin’s principle monetary policy are unprecedented, and by now, it is impossible to replicate its level of decentralization or network security, which is powered by a computer network as powerful as almost 12 trillion Intel Core i7 processors. Bitcoin also has the largest social / community strength. I would HIGHLY advise against investing or getting dragged into any project that claims superiority, I have single rule : if it says it's better than Bitcoin then its what we call “scam-coin” you will only get pulled in and lose your bitcoin/usd value causing a lot of pain and sadness . Sit down, read, learn and be patient, you will not miss out on anything over night and if something is rising in price quickly most likely it will crash as fast.
Does bitcoin have an applicable use in daily life or is it only for holding for future gains?
Bitcoin has taken over the cryptocurrency market. It’s the largest and most well-known digital currency today. Many large companies are accepting Bitcoin as a legitimate source of funds, you can use your Bitcoin at but not limited to : KFC, Burger King, Microsoft, AT&T , Expedia, Subway, Twitch, Virgin Galactic and many more just look it up. You can look up merc and services at https://spendabit.co/ So if you are living abroad, you can use your bitcoin just like any other known currency in addition there are Debit cards in collaboration with VISA network offers that are backed by Bitcoin making you able to pay with it anywhere in the world just with a swipe or tap.
As Lebanese in Lebanon, how can I buy or sell bitcoin ?
In Lebanon unfortunately we can not use our banking system to purchase bitcoin, there was a time where rain.bh an UAE based exchange was accepting Lebanese Cards, till it was stopped but give it a try we weren’t able to confirm all cards. Therefore most common way to buy bitcoin in lebanon is using P2P which is person to person exchange, this can be through an international website such as localbitcoins.com or hodlhodl.com , all you gotta do is find a sell offer initiate transaction with seller , send him his payment using WesterUnion or Moneygram and once the seller receives payment your bitcoins will be released but make sure you use escrow service which ensures safety of your transaction therefore bitcoins you are buying are frozen for the seller and he can not retrieve them unless you fail to pay or run out of time window to pay. Another p2p way is through local bitcoin communities , there are plenty of traders willing to exchange with you however always ask for the reputation of the seller inside a group and never respond to private messages unless it is a confirmed reliable trader just to avoid losing and being scammed. Feel free to find out more about how to buy in Lebanon at http://www.bitcoinduliban.org/
If I have a bank account outside Lebanon, can I use bitcoin to transfer money from Lebanon to my bank account outside?
It is possible to transfer Bitcoin to an international account in the USA or EU for example, you would need to use recognized exchanges such as coinbase.com kraken.com and many others. It would be as simple as sending BTC to your coinbase account, converting to USD and withdrawing it to your account. However you must take few precautions, if you are sending a significant amount of BTC and converting it to USD you will need some kind of proof that these funds are yours otherwise you might get investigated for money laundering. So is it convenient to send ? I do not think so, if you managed to get what we call now in Lebanon “ Fresh USD” it would be much less of a hassle to simply initiate an international transaction.
Why would I want to send Bitcoin to my family or friends in Lebanon ?
This is where I believe BTC can shine for us, you can use exchanges as coinbase, kraken or any prefered place to purchase some bitcoin that can be transferred to your family wallet within minutes. Your family or friends can exchange bitcoin or part that is needed with local traders to LBP at desired exchange rate therefore you are not forced to exchange at rates given by WesterUnion, after which they will be able to do their daily purchases and mitigate inflation rates to some extent. You can send as little as $1 and the transaction costs less than $1 for any amount.
Why is the Bitcoin price so volatile ?
Indeed it can be, sudden swings of 20% both ways are considered normal if you look at daily data, however bitcoin since 2009 had only one trend which is upward, 80% chance is if you bought BTC at any moment in past 2 years is that you are on break even or positive not loss. Feel free to try this exercise by going to https://dcabtc.com/
Should I invest?
NO. Now since we got the short version of this, let me elaborate. By the end of the day it is a new class of an asset, the price is still in the discovery phase and it could cause a lot of pain and sleepless nights if you invest more than you can chew to possibly lose. No one can advice you what to do with your money and how to position them, however i highly encourage to read, educate yourself on money before investing in BTC a good start would be https://bitcoinduliban.org. Please ask more knowledgeable bitcoin users and double check sources , once you feel confident enough that you understand this monetary system you can try dipping your toes with small amounts and build your position from there. Just stay away from quick gains schemes such as “online mining” “cloud mining” and anything that offers 100% returns in a very short time, if it's too good to be true then it's a scam.
Scams, BE AWARE.
Due to our difficult situation we are being targeted by constant advertisement of potential new solutions using “newly developed cryptocurrencies“ , unfortunately such new technology does not exist and they are trying to take advantage of us by promising fake solutions. Even Bitcoin can not provide you with a solution to your hard worked money being inaccessible in any Lebanese bank. Here are few typical scam msgs:
“A new amazing great best investment …”
“Start mining Bitcoin now … just send us xx initial investment”
‘XX is a new digital currency being developed by a group of Stanford PhDs”
“Elon musk give away - Send us 0.1 BTC or other crypto to get 10x the amount, NOW”
“Apple Bitcoin Give away, watch now”
“200% gains with mining, just set up a node”
“This New amazing crypto will do 100x do not miss out like you did with Bitcoin”
“Download this X wallet and we will give you 5 BTC for free !”
Mistyped the title... This is going to be a simple guide to help any R1 owner upgrade and optimize their Alpha.
(In order of importance) Storage Unit: HDD OUT SSD IN This is by far the easiest upgrade to make and the most effective. https://www.newegg.com/p/pl?N=100011693%20600038463 Any of those will work, just needs to be 2.5 Inch SATA. How to Replace Video WIFI Card: This is like a 5-15$ upgrade. Go find any Intel 7265ngw off eBay and replace it with your current WIFI card. If you don’t want to buy used then here. How to Replace Video RAM: Ram prices have tanked because of bitcoin mining, so this has become quite a cheap upgrade as well. I’d recommend 16GB just because why not, but if your tight on cash 8GB is fine. https://www.newegg.com/p/pl?N=100007609%20601190332%20601342186%20600000401&Order=BESTMATCH How to Replace Video CPU: This required the most research. I’d recommend you look through this first. The wattage of the processor slot only ranges from 35w-50w according to a developer of the Alpha (Source). The socket type is LGA 1150. If you’re going cheap, the i5-4590t (35w) and i5-4690s (65w) are both great options. i5-4590t i5-4690s The i5-4690t (45w) is also great but is hard to find from a trustworthy source for a reasonable price. If your willing to spend $100+ then easily the i7-4790t (45w). That is probably the best processor to put in the Alpha. All 45w will be used giving you 3.9 GHz Turbo. The T series apparently runs the best on the R1 according to This Reddit post. How to Replace Video GPU: Coming Soon! Maxed out Alpha R1 specs: i7-4790t, 1TB Samsung SSD, 16GB DDR3, Nvidia Geforce GTX 860m. (Upgrading to anything better then that is pointless)
Optimizing the Alpha R1
1st Completely wipe the computer

Acer Aspire v5-574g frame drops in games and overall performance degradation.
Good day guys. So I've had this laptop for almost 3 years now (Used) and I've encountered this problem since last year before the battery died. I've since been using this laptop as a pseudo desktop (It has to be plugged in all the time) without the internal battery. The system promptly shuts down once it reaches the desktop screen when I plug the battery in so I left it off. Basically it just drops the frames to zero every second when I play CS:GO, Apex Legends, Valorant or any of the games that I play before really. Adobe premiere and after effects really struggle with timeline scrubbing as well. Before this issue, I used to get 60 fps (smoothly) on CS:GO and it was a decent video editing machine for 1080p. So far the only modifications or repairs I've done to it are: -Changed the included hybrid hdd to an ssd+ Added an hdd caddy on the optical drive bay. (Running two drives now) -Replaced the thermal paste to Cooler Master's IC Value V1 (Twice now. Since I believed I applied it wrong the first time) - Updated the BIOS (With a few tweaks I've seen on tomshardware because it wouldn't update without the battery) I'm not sure if this is related too but I ran Malwarebytes recently and I've found a Bitcoin Miner Trojan on it. Removed it too but the problem still persists. And yes, I've already done a clean install of Windows (About 5 times since the problem started to appear). I've tried reaching out to Acer but they haven't responded to any of my questions yet and I'm pretty sure I've voided the warranty already.
Desktop Window Manager and Client Service Runtime Process taking up significant GPU
This is my first post here, so forgive me if I get anything wrong here. I'm vaguely aware I should share the specs of PC, so here they are: Dell Precision 5540 Mobile Workstation
15.6" UltraSharp FHD IGZO4, 1920x1080, AG, NT, w/Prem Panel Guar, 100% sRGB, Titan Gray w/ HD Camera
Intel® Core™ Processor i7-9750H, 6 Core, 12M Cache, 2.60GHz up to 4.3GHz Turbo, 45W, vPro
Nvidia Quadro T1000 w/4GB GDDR5
Intel Dual Band Wireless AX200 2x2 + Bluetooth 5.0 Driver
16GB, 1x16GB, DDR4 2666MHz Non-ECC Memory
M.2 512GB PCIe NVMe Class 40 Solid State Drive
Windows 10 Pro, version 1909
Onto the problem in more detail, Desktop Window Manager and CSRSS are acting weird, taking up huge amounts of GPU when the computer is essentially idle. It seems to die down a bit sometimes, and come back other times, and usually it happens in massive spikes where they take up 90%+ of the GPU. I thought it might be a bitcoin miner virus or something, so I followed the malware removal thread that is pinned at the top of the subreddit, but none of them found anything (note: I didn't go for the second opinion software). I've been starting to doubt that it actually is a bitcoin miner because it notably only eats my integrated graphics, not my Nvidia GPU thing, which seems weird. I know I could find out by doing a factory reset, but I very much do not want to lose my files, and have experienced plenty of issues with this computer that I would not like to relive. As such, I don't experience performance drops in software that uses the nividia, its mainly focused on software such as google chrome that uses integrated graphics. I've done some amount of googling and found that this might be a nvidia specific problem, but haven't found very many solutions. I did find something about thermal throttling that I didn't understand at all, and a partially working solution in lowering the priority of Desktop Window Manager to low. The priority solution appears to be effective most of the time at keeping it from spiking over 50%. This started a few days ago, and the only thing I can think of that happened was I downloaded some files (I wanted to put a rom hack for an old pokemon game on my wii u, so I had to get the rom file and the patcher and stuff).
