Another newbie post, seeking knowledge from elders

Hello fellow crypto lovers. I finally decided to dabble into the world of BTC. My questions are the following. 1, is the Coinbase app worth having? 2, what hardware wallet would you recommend to a iPhone user? Can the wallet from Coinbase be transfers to a hardware wallet to just sit on and let it grow? 3, is it worth mining still in 2020 by just running nicehash? Or just to buy some over time and let the investment grow much like stock purchase? 4, what are some tips you would like to give out?

Best Bitcoin Wallet?

Hello, I am currently a Cashapp user looking to withdraw my funds without using a bank account for reasons I won't disclose here. I was told using Bitcoin and withdrawing from a Bitcoin ATM would be the most efficient/discrete way. Admittedly, I have been reviewing bitcoin atm withdrawals all morning just to make sure I understand how to do it and that I don't mess up because I hear it's unforgiving and theres no way to recover once you mess up.

Long story short, my question is, what is the best most reliable Bitcoin wallet to use (app on iphone) where I can send my bitcoin that I purchase from cashapp? I've looked into some like Coinbase or Blockchain but they don't have the best recent reviews... Any suggestions?

Thank you.

Cryptocurrency Investment Opportunity

You can make passive income while on this decentralized matrix program named forsage acquiring cryptocurrency & you may have potential to make $300 per week to $1000 per week if you MAXIMIZE your social media to share this program”
  1. download Trust Wallet for your iphone or android & Download Metamask for your web browser (Firefox Or Google chrome recommended)
  2. Click this Link here IN YOUR WEB BROWSER ON THE COMPUTER & make sure you’re Metamask is installed on browser as well (you need Metamask to join the Forsage Link with the crypto currency you have) & have it opened in a new tab- https://forsage.io/i/fgi49y/ 3. Now in order to join all you need is a minimum of $10 in Ethereum. The more you actually have available, the better it will be. You can use Moonpay on the Trust Wallet App To purchase Ethereum or convert your bitcoin into Ethereum . If you cannot link your credit card successfully to Trust Wallet, DM me & i can help you get the crypto funds quicker.
  3. After you have the crypto currency in Trust Wallet, go back to the Forsage Link and click Join Now
  4. Where It’s says “check ID of your inviter” make sure it’s 507854 (the winning TeamMs ID) & click “Automatic Registration” & your metamask should Pop up.
  5. When met a mask pops up you login and it will ask for an amount that you want to spend to sign up.
  6. You should see a box that says Forsage x3 and Forsage x4 . The goal is to make sure that you reach up to level seven in the Forsage x4 box. Around that level you’ll start to see more passive income come in 🔥 ! But to start off, you could purchase from anywhere in the x4 box (typically the 1st level.)
  7. When you start to purchase and you have your own account, you will have access to the platform with your Metamask account (you need it linked to access cause it’ll use your Trust Wallet to access the site)
  8. Now that you are in, watch videos to get more information to capitalize with Cryptocurrency (Etherium)!
  9. You have the option to make money two ways or both: you could refer people to make more money, or keep purchasing the levels until your slots fill up and you will make passive income! (Smart people would do both for faster results)
  10. ALSO IMPORTANT MESSAGE: fill up as many x3 slots with Ethereum & x4 slots as possible! When you do this, you make your slots have more access to spillovers from new individuals. Basically the BOTTOM x4 slots are for team building. So keep re-investing & you WILL definitely see results
  11. Congratulations! Now you’re apart of the international crypto money team 😎🌍💪🏾spread the word to as many people as possible to make as more EXTRA money ! Remember, your network, is your networth💵📈
*IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS OR NEED A WALKTHROUGH, MESSAGE ME *
——————————
IF YOU ARE HAVING TROUBLE GETTING ETHERIUM
If you have a hard time purchasing Etherium to start, this was MY method that helped:
1) download Bitcoin Wallet 2) Purchase bitcoin & send it to your wallet via ATM OR via cashapp (if you cant do that, contact me i’ll help) 3) THEN transfer the Etherium from Bitcoin Wallet to your Trust Wallet 4) then link your Trust Wallet code (qr code address) to your Metamask to start the program by purchasing a slot with etherium!
***Metamask is required for you to purchase a x4 level spot in the program! (Which helps you make more $$)
—————————-
METHOD TO FUND YOUR TRUST WALLET IF YOU CANT LINK CARD WITH MOON PAY:
1 ) download coinbase 2 ) link your credit card & info to coin base 3 ) buy etherium on coinbase 4 ) transfer it to trust wallet address code

I started working with Ethereum and Bitcoin while pursuing my Bachelors in CS, got into a well-paying job in Samsung as software dev, left it to work on my Crypto security startup, Cypherock, with the aim of eliminating fear of loss of Crypto for mass adoption.
Hello everyone, I am Rohan Agarwal! I heard the word 'Bitcoin' for the first time around 2013-2014 but it didn’t creep up on the top of my mind until 2017.
It was during my college days in 2017 when I was mostly working on android apps and attending hackathons to satisfy the competitive edge in me that I met my friend and CTO of Cypherock - Vipul through a mutual friend. During the same time, I went down the crypto rabbit hole after being bugged by the idea of decentralisation. During the 2017 bull run, I was continuously researching and trading Bitcoin, Ethereum and various cryptocurrencies while conducting workshops, writing blogs about the space.
At the height of the 2017 bull market, I found that one of my friends couldn't recover his recovery phrase kept safe on paper due to an unfortunate house fire. At the same time, another one of the colleagues had kept his 24 word mnemonic phrase as a screenshot on his phone which got lost when the phone was corrupted. That's when I realized the need for a secure hardware wallet + with a recovery solution that caters to both data loss and data theft problems without a single point of failure.
To facilitate mass adoption, it is necessary that -
  1. Regular, non tech savvy people should be able to use and secure crypto without the fear of losing it.
  2. The solution to secure and recover crypto should be a non-custodial solution and the support should be open to all assets.
This was the belief that gave birth to Cypherock. Current hardware wallets secure the crypto but the unencrypted seed phrase on the paper becomes a single point of attack. We believe that seed phrases deserve the same level of security that your private keys have.
So, we used 2 of 4 Shamir Secret Sharing (with the option to change the threshold in future) along with tamper-resistant hardware to secure your private keys. Simply put, it is like Multi-sig but for your wallet recovery phrase. Practically, it’s much easier to use than multi-sig, if implemented correctly. Even Coinbase uses Shamir Secret Sharing to secure their own assets.
More on what we developed
- Each shard will be stored in a EAL6+ tamper resistant secure element chips. As comparison, your iPhone has the same level of security chip for securing fingerprints.
- Nothing will be stored in the X1 Wallet on which the computation will be done.
- Keys can be recovered by tapping any 2 out of the 4 cyCards on the X1 Wallet. Each cyCard can also be protected by a PIN just like your hardware wallet. The recovered keys are stored in a volatile memory on the X1 Wallet which gets wiped out as soon as the operation is done.
- You can store 3 wallet recovery phrases in a single product.
- The cyCards can be distributed around different places to increase security of the funds and protect against $5 wrench attacks.
What this means is without the knowledge of location of atleast 2 cyCards and the PIN, it is impossible for the hackers to steal your assets. We'll be able to support multiple blockchains (read: coins) using this along with other digital assets like your passwords, secrets, non Blockchain private keys etc. You can secure the cards by distributing it among trusted people or keeping it secure in different places that only you know of.

It has been a hell of a ride to provide an optimal solution for the mnemonic phrase/seed phrase recovery issue, without compromising the security of the user or the ownership of the assets.
We recently got backed by Consensys which was a high point for us. It has been a huge journey for us coming from India, where blockchain or the related hardware isn't that big with consumers yet.
The product is in the testing phase and we have started with the pre-orders. You can book one today with >50% off and if you don’t like it, we will give you a full refund, no questions asked.
Small Example to show how it works:
  1. You entegenerate your mnemonic phrase on the device or any other sensitive information like passwords.
  2. You tap four cyCards on the device to make 4 shards of your phrases. You'll need any 2 of them to recover your keys or perform a transaction.
  3. The cyCards can be stored at different locations or kept with different people for security.
  4. It can solve the issue with inheritance too with proper management of keys. (PM or comment to know more on this).
  5. To conduct a transaction, tap 2 cards on the device. The keys will be generated on the X1 Wallet for the transaction in a volatile memory which will be wiped off once the transaction is done (no current generation wallet has this). This allows for the hardware to have similar security as of multi-sig with the possible support of every asset.
Any feedback appreciated.
TLDR: With the dream of making storage of seed phrase an easy solution for everyone, started out with Cypherock and in the process found out a solution for removing single point of failure and a way for easy crypto inheritance. Would love any help from the community to take this further.

Bitcoin price app

Does anyone know of an iPhone app which displays the bitcoin price on the App icon on the home screen? I’m looking for an app where the icon is the price, in the same way that the clock icon always has the correct time, or the calendar icon always shows the date. I’m using Coinbase widget atm, but it’s clumsy and slow to update and it requires a left swipe to view. Does anything exist that does what I want? Thanks in advance

Good places to hold bitcoin?

I’ve recently bought a few hundred £ worth of BTC through coinbase, and I’ve just been monitoring fluctuations etc via the app and I’ve left all my BTC on there as it’s simple for me to use and withdraw/add funds whenever I need to. I heard a lot recently that you shouldn’t keep your BTC on exchanges since you don’t actually own them or something. Could anyone shed some light in layman’s terms on why not, and more importantly suggest some good places for me to hold onto my bitcoin (preferably iPhone apps I don’t use desktop too much)

Reliable platform for buying and sending Bitcoin

Hi all,
So, I bricked my iphone that has the authenticator app on it and so im frozen out of my Coinbase account which I only use to buy and send small amounts of Bitcoin about once a month. Is there a decent platform where I can just buy Bitcoin using Paypal and send it? I would reinstate my Coinbase account but the verification process makes me want to kill myself.

Lost access to my Bitpay wallet without backup, but have iPhone backup - Is it recoverable? Reward offered

Hi,
I know how stupid this was for me to do and I'm really kicking myself, but a few years ago I opened a Bitpay account and didn't save the 12 word backup phrase. It was always just on my phone and accessible without it.
At some point last year, Bitpay released an app update which basically forced me to create a new wallet, which was still fine, since I didn't have any funds on the old one which got lost in the update.
Fastforward to last night, I went to withdraw my funds from Binance, and thought I selected my CoinBase bitcoin address, but accidentally selected the old Bitpay one. The funds were sent to that wallet which I no longer have access to.
The only thing that I do have, is an iPhone backup with app data from September 2018. Technically the app data should include my wallet, but as soon as I restore my iPhone to that backup, it forces me to update Bitpay, which again wipes out all the data that was on there and forces me to create a new wallet?
Is there any way for me to open the Bitpay app in the OLD VERSION that still had my wallet on there that was accessible? My phone won't seem to let me do that as it forces me to update it.
*I'm feeling pretty hopeless so if anyone is able to help me get my funds back I will send you a percentage of the recovered funds as a reward (a pretty sizeable amount)*

Mobile wallets and security

So in the light of Coinbase Pro's recent fee hike, and because "not your keys, not your crypto", I'm planning to pull my coins (mostly Bitcoin/Ether and some DAI) out of their custody and into a proper non-custodial wallet. In preparation for that, I've recently downloaded a bunch of popular iOS wallet apps to take them for a test drive so I can make an informed decision.
My criteria for a wallet are as follows:
Wallets I've considered so far:
One thing I've noticed, and which strikes me as a bit odd, is that all of these wallets are free, and all of them quite professionally done. I literally could not find any wallet that costs money, which obviously raises the question "how are they paying their developers?" — As we all know from companies like Facebook and Google, if the product is free, then YOU'RE the product being sold. Sadly, none of these apps even address this seemingly obvious concern on their websites. At least Ethos takes the time to explain their wallet's security measures, however, just like with the other apps, you'll have to take them by their word when they say that your key never leaves your device.
Now, Coinbase Wallet and Trust Wallet are owned by major exchanges (Binance ownes the latter), so they are likely financed by revenues made from trading fees, and provided for free as a customer service. Trust has integrated support for Binance DEX, which would potentially create another stream of revenue for them, while Coinbase likely just want to offer a non-custodial solution for customers who are concerned about security.
The other wallets include fiat gateways, so I am assuming that this will pay for the development of their apps. Ethos also appears to be using this opportunity to shill their own token, so I guess that's another source of revenue for them. I do wish, however, that companies would take a more proactive approach and answer the obvious question "why should I trust YOU with my coins?" After all, you are putting yourself at risk to potentially lose a significant amount of money in case they mess up, and it wouldn't even be the first time.
Has anyone here used a software wallet to store a significant amount of coins (> $10k)? If so, which one, and why? Or should I just invest in a hardware wallet at this point? My gripes with the latter (I've test driven a Ledger Nano X before) are that ...
  1. Yet another device to keep track of (and potentially lose)
  2. UX is quite cumbersome (it's awfully annoying to enter a 4-8 digit PIN code using only two buttons)
  3. No biometric authentication (I'm sure that's bound to come at some point in the future)
Looking forward to hear your thoughts on this.
EDIT: add info about Ethos token
