A summary of QASH and why I believe it will serve a pivotal role in the growth of the cryptocurrency market worldwide.

SIDE NOTE: DO NEVER EVER LEAVE YOUR CRYPTOCURRENCIES ON QRYPTOS & QUOINE. WITHDRAWAL TAKES SEVERAL DAYS AND IN SOME CASES LONGER THAN A WEEK LATELY. MANY PEOPLE HAVE BEEN HAVING HUGE TROUBLES

DISCLAIMER: I'm not affiliated with this project in any way. Don't take this as actual investment advice at face-value, but rather a comprehensive summary I put together based upon my own findings, research, and personal insight about the project. As always, if you do wish to invest, please DYOR beforehand and make your investments based upon your own assessment of the project.

The token is called QASH (by QUOINE) and it essentially serves as the financial utility and payment token for QUOINE's upcoming Liquid+ platform and all services which it provides. I haven't actually seen much talk going on about this anywhere, and to me, it's sort of baffling how seemingly under-the-radar this has been flying, given the problem that it's going to be solving in the cryptocurrency space.

The Problem

The platform that they've built is super intriguing to me as a cryptocurrency trader due to the fact that it's aiming to fundamentally solve a huge, yet often overlooked problem in this space: illiquidity. This really excites me because in my personal experience (and I'm sure for many others on this sub who are stuck trading with minor currencies), attempting to purchase BTC, ETH, or other tokens with a fiat currency like say, GBP, is just downright painful and usually ends up in an immediate loss since there are significantly fewer buyers and sellers in the relevant GBP markets than say, USD markets - and thus the market price can tend to slip easily in either direction even with relatively small trade amounts (as a result of high spreads).

The Solution: Liquid+

Now imagine the case whereupon this problem doesn't exist — where anyone around the world, whether it be individuals, institutional investment, businesses, etc., would always be able to have immediate access to highly liquid cryptocurrency markets, and not be subject to an inherent disadvantage simply by virtue of the specific fiat currency they're using to trade with or one particular exchange that they're trading on.

This is a landscape which the Liquid+ platform will be able to render to the cryptocurrency economy, and what I think solving this problem will ultimately mean is that we'll start to see a much more global influx of individuals and institutions coming into the cryptocurrency space because a massive, worldwide liquidity pool will have been created through the Liquid+ platform. Essentially, the platform will enable minor currencies such as the Rupee, Peso, Pound Sterling, Thai Baht, whatever it is you name it — to be traded with on the same level of liquidity that a major currency (e.g. USD) does. This is the function of what they're calling the "World Book".

World Book

The World Book essentially is a global aggregation of orders sourced from many different cryptocurrency exchanges (i.e. "liquidity silos"). Orders which are placed from within any of the connected exchanges can be simultaneously published into the Liquid+ platform and be matched with orders from a completely separate exchange. What's even more fascinating about this is that these matched orders aren't even necessarily required to be of the same trading pair.

So for instance, a trader who intends to make a btc-yen trade can be automatically matched up with another trader making a totally separate trade say, eth-euro, just by virtue of the world book internally executing a two-step transaction in order to "hop" from the euro trade to the yen trade. It's important to note that this entire process all happens seamlessly and is transparent to the end-user. Each trader would see every other traders' orders denominated in their preferred quote currency (even though the orders may actually be based on a different quote currency on the other side), meaning that the world book is "currency-agnostic" amongst all orders.

Performance-wise, the platform is deemed to be capable of handling over a million of these orders / FX-conversions per second, and is built upon a set of already established and tested technologies developed by QUOINE. As a result, much of the platform is actually already in place, and the integration work with many of the world's largest cryptocurrency exchanges are already underway or have been completed.

Additionally, here's a great explanation of what the World Book can do as described by Andre Pemmelaar, who is one of the architects of the platform. Further high level explanation by QUOINE CEO Mike Kayamori.

Another important point to note on this is that there's generally a big incentive for exchanges to participate in this World Book, as it will be able to funnel in substantially more trading volume from the markets of other exchanges.

In my mind, the World Book will no doubt be an absolute game changer to this space when it hits. However, there's another equally, if not more substantial component to the platform:

Prime Brokerage

Liquid+ will act as a Prime Brokerage service, and it will be the first of its kind in the cryptocurrency space (by which QUOINE is officially licensed by the JFSA, one of the strictest regulators in the world). One way you can think of it, is that this could effectively make Liquid+ into the Goldman Sachs or Morgan Stanley equivalent of the cryptocurrency space, and it's in fact aiming to become the platform upon which major hedge funds and institutional investors around the world will prefer to leverage in order to mitigate counter-party risk (such as a particular exchange getting hacked and losing funds), manage and move large amounts of fiat capital, as well as take advantage of the globally sourced liquidity pool provided by the world book.

To me, it makes perfect sense to have integrated, seeing as many of the major reputable exchanges around the world will have already been interconnected through the Liquid+ platform. Ultimately, it means individuals as well as major institutions coming into this space will no longer be required to deal with the pain of managing numerous individual accounts across multiple exchanges and transferring funds between each. Instead, Liquid+ allows its users to be provided with direct market access to the liquidity and trading pairs yielded by all associated exchanges in a single platform, and on a single account. By now, you can probably start to imagine just how attractive this is going to be for the major institutional players coming into this space, and on an international scale.

User-Generated Trading Strategies

Another intriguing feature is that once the QASH blockchain is implemented, the platform will be able to facilitate the authoring of custom-written automated trading strategies and algorithms by any of its users (including individuals as well as institutions), utilizing a variety of mainstream programming languages. These strategies can then be published to the platform and shared amongst other users. The profits yielded by these trading strategies are subject to fees which are then paid back in QASH to the authors of those strategies.

QASH Token Value Proposition

The value of the QASH token is proportional to the scale of its utility and velocity of usage. For starters, QASH can be used for payment on the Liquid+ platform for everything including trading fees, fees on profit from automated trading strategies (as described above), fiat / crypto credit lending, and for all other services that it renders. QASH can also be used as payment on QUOINE's other products: Quoinex and Qryptos. Additionally, users who elect to pay using QASH on these platforms do so at a discounted rate on fees.

Another important point to note here is that QASH will be used to fuel payment for all services rendered by the Prime Brokerage. So for instance when institutions start to utilize the platform, it means that this money will start to flow through the QASH token as well.

But I think perhaps the bigger and longer-term value proposition for QASH is the fact that it's striving to become the "Bitcoin or Ethereum of the financial services industry", meaning widespread adoption of QASH as the preferred cryptocurrency for use in financial institutions. As more and more of these institutions seek to gain a foothold in the blockchain space, they're going to be looking for cryptocurrencies that maintain trustworthy backing and have the appropriate governmental regulation / security frameworks set in place. QASH aims to fulfill this role and is in fact officially approved as a cryptocurrency by the Japanese government. Moreover, QUOINE is the only cryptocurrency exchange company which is audited by a "Big Four" accounting firm.

QASH is initially built upon the ERC-20 token standard, but will eventually migrate to its own blockchain by Q2 2019. As opposed to Ethereum, the blockchain will incorporate sophisticated tools and services which are geared specifically toward usage in the financial services industry (read more about these here). Having this inherent support for many financially related functions will be paramount for wider adoption as a token of preference, as QASH seeks to bridge the gap between traditional finance and the cryptocurrency economy.

With adoption by the financial services industry, the value of the QASH token can then be expected to continue increasing as a result of its ever expanding utility and usage.

Additionally, here's an explanation of the QASH blockchain as described by Andre.

Brief Company Background (QUOINE)

QUOINE is a profitable and established FinTech company (over 250 years of combined FinTech experience) who have built Quoinex, one of the top ranking exchanges in the world by volume, as well as Qryptos, a token-to-token asset exchange and ICO platform. Quoinex is one of the largest fiat-to-crypto exchanges in the world with $12 Billion in annual transactions. They are the first global cryptocurrency firm in the world to be officially licensed by the Japan Financial Services Agency (License 0002) and has as a "Big Four" external auditor.

Leadership

What gives me confidence that QASH may succeed in becoming widely adopted by financial institutions is that the company is lead by those with strong financial leadership. QUOINE's executives hail from the financial services industry, many of whom have served executive positions at some of the biggest financial institutions in the world.

Detailed information about the executives and board directors can be found on the Liquid+ website (or in the whitepaper) so I won't list them all out here for the sake of conciseness, but many of them come from executive positions at major institutions including:

QASH / Platform Investors

Again, a full detailed list can be found on the Liquid+ website. Investors in the platform and QASH ICO include those who have executive leadership roles at companies such as:

Additionally, Mike had announced in his video AMA a few other notable investors in the ICO who aren't listed on the website:

Liquidity Partners

The platform of course needs a lot of liquidity partners from around the world participating in order for the system to function worthwhile. Andre discusses their numerous liquidity partnerships in this video, so I'll simply summarize:

Other Tidbits & Speculation

TL;DR

QASH, in the long-run, ultimately aims to become the standard preferred cryptocurrency used by financial institutions worldwide, the value of which is derived from the scale of its utility and widespread usage. The QASH token is also used to fuel payment for fees and services in QUOINE's trading platforms, one of which is an upcoming platform called Liquid+.

Liquid+ is a novel platform which I think will change the landscape of the cryptocurrency space. It builds a single massive global liquidity pool called the World Book which allows minor fiat currencies (e.g. Rupee, Peso, GBP, etc.) to trade crypto with the same liquidity that a major fiat currency (e.g. USD) does, significantly reducing losses due to high spreads, and ultimately provides the liquid on-ramp necessary for many potential untapped markets worldwide.

The platform also features a Prime Brokerage service (first of its kind in crypto) which will allow users direct market access to many exchanges throughout the world without the hassle of having to manage accounts on each, which mitigates counter-party risk. The Prime Brokerage service will be an attractive vehicle upon which major institutional investors will want to use for managing funds in the cryptocurrency space because it's safe, regulated, and government approved.

QASH is created by QUOINE, one of the largest cryptocurrency exchange companies. QUOINE is headed by executives who previously served high-level positions at the world's largest financial institutions. Investors in QASH include financial executives at major institutions, and also a few well known figures: Taizo Son, Nobuyuki Idei, and Jihan Wu.

Localbitcoins Volume Analysis Shows Countries Where Fiat is Hyperinflationary, Bitcoin Gaining Traction

https://cryptoiq.co/localbitcoins-volume-analysis-shows-countries-where-fiat-is-hyperinflationary-bitcoin-gaining-traction/
Localbitcoins is the longest running and most popular peer to peer Bitcoin exchange in the world, with trading volume increasing from less than $100,000 per week in 2012 to over $50 million per week currently.
On Localbitcoins, buyers and sellers complete deals directly with each other, using the full spectrum of fiat payment methods, ranging from bank transfers to gift cards.
Here, we’ll discuss countries with rapidly increasing Localbitcoins trading volume. These are usually countries undergoing a fiat inflation crisis or countries which have enacted severe regulations on Bitcoin trading leaving peer to peer trading as the only option.
It is good to first look at Localbitcoins trading volume in the United States before identifying countries without of the ordinary volume trends. Bitcoin is legal in the United States, and the United States perhaps has the lowest fiat inflation rate in the world at 2-3 percent since the USD is the underpinning of the global fiat currency system. The trading volume on Localbitcoins in the United States gradually increased to $10 million per week during the peak of the December 2017 Bitcoin rally and has since then leveled off to $6 million per week.
Countries with relatively stable fiat currencies follow this trend of an all-time volume high during the peak of the 2017 Bitcoin rally, followed by a gradual decline during the 2018 bear market. This includes Australia, Canada, the European Union, Hong Kong, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.
South America Seeing Rapid Increase in Peer to Peer Bitcoin Trading
South American countries that where people use Localbitcoins are seeing rapidly increasing volume throughout 2018 despite the bear market, and this appears to be due to a continent-wide fiat inflation crisis.
In Argentina, Localbitcoins trading volume has rallied from ARS 1 million to ARS 9 million since the beginning of 2017. The Argentinian Peso (ARS) has simultaneously experienced 140 percent inflation relative to the USD. The hyperinflation of the ARS itself does not yield the 9X increase in Localbitcoins trading volume, so clearly, the actual amount of peer to peer Bitcoin trading in Argentina is also rapidly increasing thanks to fiat hyperinflation.
Venezuela is experiencing the most well-known hyperinflation crisis in the world right now, with the inflation rate in excess of 400,000 percent according to the Cafe Con Leche Index, and a total collapse of the Sovereign Bolivar (VES) seeming imminent.
Localbitcoins trading volume in Venezuela is exponentially increasing, from VES 8,000 at the beginning of 2017 to VES 3.8 billion currently. It is likely that a large part of this volume rally can be explained by cryptocurrency adoption proliferating across Venezuela, as its citizens move their money into cryptocurrency in order to protect themselves against catastrophic hyperinflationary conditions. The Localbitcoins trading volume in Venezuela in terms of Bitcoin confirms this, with volume increasing from 274 Bitcoins at the beginning of 2017 to 1,743 Bitcoins currently.
Chile is also seeing a steady rise in Localbitcoins trading volume in terms of the native fiat currency the Chilean Peso (CLP). During the peak of the 2017 Bitcoin rally volume reached CLP 213 million per week, and in November 2018 trading volume was as high as CLP 243 million. Since April 2018 the CLP has had 19 percent inflation relative to the USD. In 2016 and 2017, the CLP was actually strengthening relative to the USD, so the inflation trend in Chile is relatively new.
Colombia has seen Localbitcoins trading volume rapidly increase from COP 230 million at the beginning of 2017 to COP 8.13 billion per week in November 2018. Simultaneously, there has been 13 percent inflation of the Colombian Peso (COP) relative to the USD since the beginning of 2017.
Actual Bitcoin volume has surged from less than 100 Bitcoins per week at the beginning of 2018 to more than 650 currently. Since Colombia is the next-door neighbor of Venezuela, perhaps this surge in Localbitcoins volume has something to do with Venezuelans obtaining the Bitcoins they need in Colombia.
In Peru, Localbitcoins weekly trading volume has steadily increased from PEN 60,000 at the beginning of 2017 to as high as PEN 3.145 million in November 2018. Simultaneously, Bitcoin volume has surged from less than 20 Bitcoins per week to 236 Bitcoins. The Peruvian Sol (PEN) has seen 10 percent inflation relative to the USD during 2018.
Overall, it is clear that fiat inflation in South America is not confined to Venezuela. Argentina, Chile, Colombia, and Peru are also experiencing fiat inflation and a major uptick in Bitcoin adoption. Thanks to this, it appears that South America will be a hotspot for cryptocurrency adoption in the coming years.
India Peer to Peer Bitcoin Trading Surges Due to Ban of Centralized Exchanges
The Indian Rupee (INR) has had 11 percent inflation relative to the USD since the beginning of 2018. The bigger story in India regarding Bitcoin is that the Reserve Bank of India has banned the use of bank accounts for Bitcoin activity, which has effectively banned centralized Bitcoin exchanges. This has caused a steady increase in peer to peer Bitcoin trading on Localbitcoins, which is still legal, from INR 48 million per week in May 2018 to as high as INR 122 million during November. There is some speculation that India will make Bitcoin completely illegal like its neighbor Pakistan.
Iran Sanctions Cause Peer to Peer Bitcoin Trading to Spike
Crippling international sanctions on Iran were announced in September 2018 and implemented by November in response to Iran breaking its nuclear treaty. The Iranian Rial (IRR) experienced 430 percent inflation relative to the USD, going from IRR 36,000 per USD at the beginning of 2018 to IRR 190,000 per USD by September. However, the Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei ordered that everything must be done to strengthen the IRR, and the free market ended at that point. Currency traders have been executed, making the living ones scared to bid the IRR lower, and Bitcoin has been made illegal to prevent outflows of capital. Localbitcoins trading volume spiked during the September 2018 hyperinflation crisis but is currently falling quickly due to the risks associated with trading Bitcoin in Iran.
Russia and Kazakhstan Have Rising Bitcoin Trading as Fiats Experience Inflation
Russia certainly had a trading volume spike on Localbitcoins during the peak of the 2017 Bitcoin rally, but in general, volume is consistently rising from Russian Ruble (RUB) 750 million per week in April 2018 to RUB 1 billion per week currently. This coincides with 21 percent inflation of the RUB relative to the USD during the same period of time.
Russia’s neighbor to the south, and former part of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, Kazakhstan, is also seeing consistently high Localbitcoins trading volume during 2018. The Kazakhstani Tenge (KZT) has seen 17 percent inflation since April 2018 relative to the USD.
Localbitcoins trading volume data shows that peer to peer Bitcoin trading is increasing worldwide in several countries even during the 2018 Bitcoin bear market, and this is often associated with fiat hyperinflation.
In general, it is thought that if hyperinflation were to become a problem in the United States and the European Union, Bitcoin would have a chance to become the primary global currency. The hyperinflation crisis being observed in several countries worldwide provides a glimpse of what the transition from fiat to Bitcoin may look like. In some countries there is a ‘smooth’ transition, with Bitcoin volume rising as fiat collapses, while other countries experience a rough transition in which Bitcoin is made illegal, making it hard to measure Bitcoin adoption on the ground.

ASEAN Countries and Crypto: Yay or Nay?

Source

Just two months ago, Writer Angaindrankumar Gnanasagaran summarised the latest policies and attitudes Southeast Asia had towards blockchain technology in an article titled Blockchain gaining ground in Southeast Asia, featured on The Asean Post. He reported that blockchain technology has “gained significant currency in Southeast Asia [as] many governments within the region have warmed up to the prospect of promoting the integration of this technology into businesses and the public sector”.
Just how true is this progression? Let’s have a look.

Philippines

https://preview.redd.it/qgdk2omc4wf21.png?width=1600&format=png&auto=webp&s=4d07949ca67e07c67d12b3b576a65165091c2074
On 8th August last year, the government-owned Cagayan Economic Zone Authority (CEZA) announced its latest partnership with private property developer Northern Star Gaming & Resorts Inc. – the development of Crypto Valley of Asia, a fintech and cryptocurrency hub set to be built on the Cagayan Special Economic Zone and Freeport, and intended to house up to 25 crypto firms on its premise.
A few months later in October, Ateneo de Manila University and health-tech company MediXserve jointly launched the AMBERLab (Ateneo-MediXserve Blockchain Education & Reasearch Lab) to research future applications of blockchain in health-tech, fintech, edutech, Artificial Intelligence (AI), data analytics and other related industries.
This year, about a week ago on 7 February, The Philippines, through the Cagayan Economic Zone Authority (CEZA), approved the Digital Asset Token Offering (DATO) regulations that recognises CEZA as the principal regulating authority and The Asia Blockchain and Crypto Association (ABACA) as the designated self-regulatory organization (SRO) that will implement and enforce the new DATO regulations.
The rules are simple. All DATOs must submit proper documentation, providing details on the issuer, project, advisors, and certificates of experts and DA agents involved. Tokens can only be listed on licensed Offshore Virtual Currency Exchange (OVCE) and stakeholders must submit appropriate documentation with accredited wallet providers and custodians.
The regulations also classify DATO into three tiers:
Tier 1: Assets and investments ≤ $5M with payment in digital tokens
Tier 2: Assets and investments from $6M to $10M
Tier 3: Assets and investments ≥ $10M
Clearly, unlike its vague position last year, the Philippines has been gearing up for blockchain technology and has implemented new measures as a result to regulate the wave of digital tokens crashing into the local market. One of the largest banks, UnionBank of Philippines, even announced on 11 February that it plans to launch an ATM that will facilitate digital assets trade in the national currency, the Philippine Pesos. If the Philippines keeps up this optimistic outlook, she may just fulfil her vision of being the Crypto Valley of Asia.

Thailand

https://preview.redd.it/hmwg4sde4wf21.png?width=1600&format=png&auto=webp&s=50878be44e8ee3b0b347823d76670c4dc7fc78af
If the Philippines seems supportive towards cryptocurrency, then Thailand is definitely a crypto wonderland. While others were still grappling to understand the blockchain technology and its idiosyncrasies, Thailand was quick to jump on the crypto train in 2018. Within the span of a few months, the Thai government enacted the emergency decree that allowed it to roll out a new law for the budding blockchain industry: the Digital Asset Business Decree.
This decree differs from other countries by skipping the core debate that demanded the differentiation between security tokens in cryptocurrency. Instead, it classifies cryptocurrencies as “a medium of exchanging goods” and digital tokens as “rights to participate in an investment, or to receive specific goods”. It even amended its tax regulations to include the taxation of cryptocurrency firms. For instance, firms raising funds through Initial Coin Offerings (ICOs) will be taxed 15% on their income while others undertaking Initial Public Offering are not. The two laws went effective as of 14 May 2018 and set the standard for other countries delving into the blockchain industry.
Now, at the time of writing, the Thai securities and exchange commission (SEC) has granted four operating licenses to applications from blockchain-based businesses applying for licenses to conduct local operations. The four applicants who were successfully awarded a license are: Bitcoin Exchange Co., Ltd., Bitkub Online Co., Ltd., Satang Corporation, and Coins TH Co., Ltd. The former three are digital asset exchanges, while the latter is a cryptocurrency brokerage.
That being said, Thailand’s friendliness towards the crypto trade is not to be mistaken with leniency or a laxation in security measures. While the above four were granted operating licenses, two other applications from Cash2coin and Southeast Asia Digital Exchange Co. (SEADEX) were rejected, having failed to meet the required criteria set out by the SEC.Thailand’s intention to retain a tight grip on the cryptocurrency industry is a smart move on the country’s part as news of cryptocurrency scams continue to flood the market. In November last year, Thai regulators even released their own web-based platform to host potential ICOs, ensuring the country is kept up with the latest projects in the cryptocurrency industry. The reason behind this scrutiny has been speculated by some to be Thailand’s way of conducting research and accumulating data in order to release a national cryptocurrency in time.

Indonesia

https://preview.redd.it/3rcbwzdg4wf21.png?width=255&format=png&auto=webp&s=e11280d3c40e746f00c711fcffaf5b20d8c3d6bf
In late 2017, the central bank of Indonesia, Bank Indonesia declared cryptocurrency to be illegal in the country under the Law No. 7/2011 and penned the BI Regulation, stating all financial transactions had to be conducted in the Indonesia rupiah. Yet, despite the bank’s firm opposition against these digital fledglings, it is clear to the world that the Indonesia government does not share its skepticism. On 3 June 2018, Beppebti, the Indonesian Trade Ministry’s Futures Exchange Supervisory Boards legalised cryptocurrencies as commodities in the country in spite of the central bank’s disapproval, making cryptocurrency trade legal in the eyes of the government. In fact, Indonesia Digital Asset Exchange (INDODAX) — the largest Indonesian cryptocurrency exchange — announced in March 2018 that the number of users on its platform had surpassed that of the Indonesia Stock Exchange.
While the bank remains vehement in its denial of cryptocurrency, the local citizens have embraced it. Indonesian media company Coinvestasi has organised the Indonesia Cryptocurrency Festival 2019 that is currently in the midst of its tour across various cities, sparking the conversation about cryptocurrency nationwide.

Roadshow Timeline of Coinfest Indonesia 2019
Unfortunately, due to the nation’s vague stance, the local Bitcoin market holds less than one percent of the global cryptocurrency market, with only two Indonesia Bitcoin exchanges available for Bitcoin purchases at a fixed rate.

Malaysia

https://preview.redd.it/o1xquxnk4wf21.png?width=1600&format=png&auto=webp&s=afd89d4a5f8757b7fe3fc5e5a01a403a50f88368
2019 brings new beginnings and new regulations for digital asset offerings in Malaysia. Based on a notice from Malaysia’s Securities Commission (SC), the Capital Markets and Services (Prescription of Securities) (Digital Currency and Digital Token) Order 2019 has been enacted since Jan. 15.The Order meant that token offerings and exchanges are required to seek approval from SC before operations can begin. However, despite Malaysia’s strict clampdown on ICOs, it appears that the country is not adverse to digital assets after all. Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng stated: “In particular, we believe digital assets have a role to play as an alternative fundraising avenue for entrepreneurs and new businesses, and an alternate asset class for investors.”In December last year, the SC and Malaysia’s central bank, Bank Negara Malaysia, jointly released a statement explaining that the purpose of these new regulations was to make digital assets “within the remit of securities laws to promote fair and orderly trading and ensure investor protection.”

Singapore

https://preview.redd.it/70k0qgbm4wf21.png?width=1600&format=png&auto=webp&s=04b87cc9e3bb3301c8bdf02db3cf3eb8347d4876
Singapore has always embraced the potential of digital assets and its ability to transform the future. In November 2017, the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) released the Payment Services Bill (PSB) in the Singaporean Parliament. In essence, the Bill subjected digital currency to the same laws regulating domestic and international money transfers, and foreign exchange transactions. The MAS also released a set of guidelines for parties interested titled “A guide to digital token offerings”. The document listed on their website contained general advice on application procedures and rules for companies to be legally qualified in offering and issuing digital tokens in Singapore. When confronted with security breaches in major cryptocurrency exchanges, MAS updated their Bill in January 2019 to safeguard the interests of cryptocurrency investors. The Bill proposes to implement a dual-track regulatory guideline for both major and smaller financial institutions respectively.

In summary…
While countries like Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and especially Singapore embrace the future of cryptocurrency, other ASEAN countries continue to sit on the fence regarding digital currency. Vietnam remains undecided, as evident from the confusing debates wranged out amongst authorities and the ban on crypto trading despite possession of digital assets being legal. Laos approaches digital currencies with caution and Cambodia has ironically forbade finance firms from cryptocurrency transactions while creating its own national cryptocurrency. Other countries like Myanmar and Brunei continue to distance themselves from the world of digital assets and remain vague on their policies and governance.
Despite the uncertainty, however, ASEAN is clearly becoming an important market for traders of digital assets. As digital assets continue to gain prominence within the region, what better way to jump into the crypto market than with 1SG, a fiat-backed stablecoin pegged to Singapore’s own fiat currency, the Singapore Dollar?

Morning Prepper

U.S. stock index futures are inching up ahead of the open, recovering from two rough trading sessions that were dented by worries over trade and the emerging markets. The tech sector also felt pressure after Facebook (NASDAQ:FB) and Twitter (NYSE:TWTR) defended themselves before a skeptical U.S. Congress and the DOJ opened a probe into whether social media is "stifling" speech. September is historically a rocky month for equities, and worse in midterm election years.
Economy
"If the U.S., regardless of opposition, adopts any new tariff measures, China will be forced to roll out necessary retaliatory measures," according to the country's commerce ministry. Due to China's massive trade surplus over the U.S., many expect the nation could further devalue its currency or crack down on U.S. firms inside the country. The Trump administration is reportedly ready to move ahead with a next round of tariffs after a public comment period ends at midnight.
American and Canadian negotiators are engaged in "intense" NAFTA discussions, according to President Trump. "If it doesn't work out, it'll be fine for our country but it won't be OK for Canada," he added. Talks broke down last Friday after the two sides failed to reach a deal that would bring Canada into a new trilateral trade pact with the U.S. and Mexico.
Not much has worked to stabilize the Argentine peso, but the country's economy minister sees with "enormous confidence the advance we have made" with top IMF officials over changes to its $50B aid package. Progress on improving the country’s economy is still "likely to be slow," Nicolas Dujovn declared, shooting down reports that he had discussed a possible loan from the U.S.
Another blow to the nation's booming tourism industry... A strong earthquake hit northern Japan early Thursday, forcing the closure of a second major airport after a typhoon shut down another one in the west of the country earlier this week. At least two people were killed and 38 were missing, while virtually all of Hokkaido, or 2.95M homes, was without power.
Stocks
Crypto prices continue to tumble following a Business Insider report that stated Goldman Sachs was dropping plans to open a trading desk for cryptocurrencies. Bitcoin (BTC-USD) is down about 12% over the last 24 hours to a low of $6,279. The alts posted far worse during that time, with the price of Ethereum (ETH-USD) tumbling by 20%, Ripple (XRP-USD) dropping by 14% and Bitcoin Cash (BCH-USD) falling 19%.
The FBI is investigating American Express's (NYSE:AXP) pricing practices at its foreign-exchange unit, sources told the WSJ, focusing on whether costs were misrepresented in order to attract clients. The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency is also looking at how the company disclosed pricing to customers, including what they were told regarding potential rate increases.
Facebook is building its first Asian data center in Singapore, investing more than $1B in the facility. It will be powered completely from renewable energy sources and will be the first location to implement StatePoint Liquid Cooling technology, which can reduce typical peak water usage in humid climates by as much as 20%. Facebook (FB) runs 15 other data centers worldwide, mostly in the U.S. and European markets.
Just weeks before the fall TV season, the bitter disputes between CBS and National Amusements over corporate control and a possible merger with Viacom (VIA, VIAB) may be coming to an end, Deadline Hollywood reports. The fate of CBS chief Les Moonves also isn't clear. He's been accused of sexual misconduct and assault, but his outcome is being treated separately from the ongoing talks.
A public spat between Amazon and Bernie Sanders over workers' wages has escalated after the Vermont senator introduced legislation, called the BEZOS bill (Stop Bad Employers by Zeroing Out Subsidies), aimed at taxing big companies whose employees rely on federal benefits to make ends meet. Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) responded with a lengthy blog post claiming $15/hour pay for its full-time workers, as well as a slew of other benefits.
After amassing more than 25,000 coffee shops in 78 countries, Starbucks (NASDAQ:SBUX) is turning to Italy. Its third "reserve roastery" after Seattle and Shanghai will open tomorrow in Milan, where it will forgo Frappuccinos and focus on espresso, pizza and made-to-order ice cream. Besides the premium offering, Starbucks plans to open its first normal coffee shops in the city by the end of year.
In a bid to improve its socially responsible credentials, Burberry (OTCPK:BURBY) is no longer burning millions of pounds worth of unsold goods or using real fur in its collections. The British luxury brand came under fire earlier this year after it admitted to destroying unsold clothes and accessories to protect the brand and prevent items from being sold cheaply.
Looking to focus on higher growth areas, Novartis (NYSE:NVS) is selling parts of its Sandoz generic-drugs business in the U.S. to India's Aurobindo Pharma (OTC:ARBQY) for $900M. Overall it plans to sell around 300 products from its dermatology business and generic oral solids portfolio, as well as additional development projects. The deal also includes an additional $100M in performance-based payments.
The stick shift is stalling. Fewer Americans are learning how to drive them and the arguments - that they make cars more fuel efficient and cheaper to buy - aren't always true anymore because automatic transmissions have greatly improved. The latest... Audi (OTCPK:AUDVF) has confirmed that it will no longer offer any manual-transmission vehicles in the U.S. beginning with the 2019 model year.
Uber is on track to go public next year and has no plans to sell its self-driving car research arm. "Ultimately, it is a big asset that we are building and we can monetize that in whatever way we want to," CEO Dara Khosrowshahi told Reuters. UBER is also "quite optimistic" it can resume testing of autonomous vehicles later this year after a fatal crash in Tempe, Arizona.

Cross Boarder Payment

Hi everyone, I just wanted to have a sanity check as I am quite new to using Bitcoin as a international payment medium.
I accept payments from people in Philippine peso, and need to pay my vendor in Singapore dollars. I found coins.ph here in the Philippines which charges me about 1% off the "spot" rate to convert into BTC. I then opened an account with Coinhako in Singapore who again charges me 0.5% to convert from BTC to Singapore dollars. The transfer to a local bank account is free but takes 3 days.
All in, I'm averaging about 1.5 to 2% all in per transaction. This seems quite okay, however my transactions average between $10,000 and $20,000 so it's still a bit of money.
Does this solution sound about right? Or is there a simpler way? If I want to pay a vendor in say, Thailand, do I also need a Thai exchange to work with or is there a larger exchange who can handle more countries?
Looking forward to any advice.
Thanks!
